A Social Emotional Learning program where children REPETITIVELY PRACTICE the words and motions needed to get along, echoing the words of the program’s mascot, “I can handle this more peacefully!”

Just like we repetitively practice“sports skills” so children can be good at sports,

why not repetitively practice “getting along skills”, so children can be good at getting along, too?

Teachers, Parents, Scout Leaders, and Older Students can all be coaches in this positive, proactive program.

Sports and Peace "Coach" similarities:

  • Instructs on skills
  • Demonstrates skills
  • Allows for daily practice of skills
  • Often has an assistant coach
  • Does all of this in a fun setting

The Three Types of Peace:

  • Peace, as in “getting along” is covered in a curriculum for children, grades K – 5, up to 8 as assistants/performers
  • Peace, as in a “calm and tranquill” environment, is covered in a supplement for teachers
  • Peace, as in “the absence of war“, is what we hope graduates of Peace Coach achieve in the future

We hope you will explore Peace Coach a little further, and help make our mission become a reality.

WHY OUR PROGRAM IS EFFECTIVE:

Repetitive Practice

The skills in Peace Coach are practical with a nuts and bolts style, and can be practiced for less than a minute a day, for several days. The habits and rote memory formed from this practice can be especially helpful during the stressful moments of a conflict.

Variety

The material and practices of Peace Coach can be spread out among subjects to help build a culture of peace. For example, a monthly 15 minute lesson can be taught in a classroom, reinforcing fun games can be played in Physical Education, related songs can be sung in Music, skits can be filmed or done live in Theatre or Health, select books can be read in the Media Center… – Peace Coach covers it all!

Peer Teaching

Since “the best way to know something is to teach it”, the oldest children occasionally teach and perform concepts. They develop ownership and leadership skills from doing so. Four teaching opportunities are available and they can choose from over two dozen 5 minute skits to perform live, or videotape.

Expertise

The information shared in Peace Coach is in line with the advice of many well known experts including Rosalind Wiseman, Kirk Martin, Michelle Borba, Alan Beane, and the government website to name a few. The information is also based on years of experience and observable success.
